Darling Mickey Keating
Her descent is convincing here because she is so convincing every step of the way. Less substantial than POD as it feels Keating was interesting in doing something simple in between the paranoid nightmare that was POD and the dark road trip film CARNAGE PARK, DARLING is powerful in its silence and beauty. Through Keating's artistic lens and his threadbare story, DARLING's resonance comes from its simplicity and the truly astounding star power of Lauren Ashley Carter. This one is not for big budget horror freaks, but if you like your paranoia at a personal level, DARLING will definitely fill the bill. Click here for the trailer! Less trite than the "Footprints" needlework adorning your Aunt Lorraine's throw pillows and full of the "thys" so sadly missing from modern discourse, its message is simple: Be deliberate in your actions and you will avoid error. Or put differently, one misstep leads to another. "One misstep leads to another" is not merely the handiwork of an inattentive Fixx fan. It is the common translation… Recent reviews This might be my favorite horror film in the last 10 years. The cinematography is astonishingly good, the music is amazing, the sound editing is phenomenal and the acting is great. I can't say enough good things about this. This is what modern horror should be. Can't believe I've never heard anybody bring this film up before. This is a masterpiece. Rating: 10/10 Watched on: Shudder Paranoia movies are enough Literally how do people hate this???? I do not understand anyone giving this less than 3. 5 stars straight up. This was fantastic. This gave me big Repulsion vibes. I enjoyed it.

For their second low-budget horror collaboration, after the ambitious if flawed alien-invasion movie Pod, director Mickey Keating and actress Lauren Ashley Carter went a little more classical. Darling plays like something that might have screened at the Anthology Film Archives in the heady, occult-tinged early '70s, an artfully shot black-and-white riff on Repulsion and The Shining (no, The Shining hadn't been released then, but the comparison stands) told in fragmented chapters whose indelible images include a young woman in a beehive hairdo, spattered with a stranger's blood. Set in a Manhattan free of contemporary identifiers like cell phones and TVs, Darling opens with our title character (Carter) receiving instructions from Sean Young, playing the imperious, fur-clad "Madame" of the stately brownstone she will be housesitting. "Madame" informs her employee that the house has a bit of a reputation, especially after the previous caretaker killed herself last winter. She then sashays out the door, surely smelling of gardenias or roses or some other stately floral, leaving "Darling" alone to explore the place—and Carter to carry the film.

(Or, perhaps a demon preying on a mental health disorder. ) More disturbingly, it might be a case where we are possessed by her. The darker Darling's behavior gets, the more we can't stop watching her. Does that make us complicit in her actions? One could totally interpret Darling as a metaphor for our inherent fascination with violence, with the horrible things people are capable of, and with evil itself. Darling joins the ranks of It Follows, The Babadook, The Witch, and Goodnight Mommy as an example of original, deeply atmospheric horror that has no need for cheap shocks or tired theatrics. Armed with a pitch-black sense of humor, a confidently-executed nightmarish style, and a dazzling turn from Lauren Ashley Carter, the movie works its way into your psyche and gradually frays your nerves. If you love horror, Darling is a film you should not miss under any circumstances. ( 1/2 out of four) Darling is unrated, but contains language, nudity, and graphic violence. The running time is 1 hour and 15 minutes.

00pm on Saturday night, the audience are on their 6th film of the day and didn't have a clue what to expect, personally I was hoping for Bone Tomahawk, The Green Room or maybe even Baskin but when star Lauren Ashley Carter popped up on screen to introduce Darling I wasn't disappointed, I'd really enjoyed Mickey Keaton's previous film Pod so I was looking forward to seeing what he came up with next. Darling is a stylish haunted apartment/possession movie that see's Lauren Ashley Carter's titular Darling move into one of Manhattan's oldest buildings to house sit while the owner (Sean Young) goes on… A beautiful black and white slice of psychological horror, with a great lead performance from Lauren Ashley Carter. Carter really carries this movie, as she's alone in most scenes. She's someone I've seen pop up in a couple other movies and she's always good. Most notably, Imitation Girl, where she's even better than she is in this movie. So, I can almost always appreciate when a movie is under 90 minutes, but this one felt a bit too lean even for my liking.
