Forgot to seal the brown sugar properly? We've got your back. We've all reached for the brown sugar in the middle of a recipe, only to realize it's turned into a giant, solid rock of sugar. While frustrating, all is not lost: there are two great ways to salvage the situation, depending on how much time you have. The classic 24-hour method, or the (zippier) microwave method will both soften that lump of hard brown sugar, returning it to its former glory. How To Soften Brown Sugar In The Microwave 1. Place sugar in a microwave-safe bowl Put your solid lump of dried brown sugar in a microwave-safe bowl. 2. Add damp paper towels Lay two pieces of paper towel on top of each other. Fold them in half, and then in half again. You should end up with a square of 8 layers. Wet the paper towel square under a gently running tap until it is completely wet through, but not soaked (dripping wet is too wet). Lay the wet paper towel over the lump of brown sugar so it is fully covered. Microwave for 45 seconds on med-low heat.

In addition, the service has been getting in-season episodes of Bounce TV shows, and has begun to stream select boxing matches. Eventually, Brown Sugar may also produce its own shows, much like Netflix does today "We are looking at original content, " said Katz. However, he also said that the service still has what he called "a long runway" of acquired content at its disposal. Speaking of Netflix: Katz and Meadows didn't seem too concerned about competition from the streaming giant. "We believe that this is not a zero-sum game, " said Katz. Ultimately, Netflix would teach consumers to pay for streaming, and Netflix users were more likely to subscribe to Brown Sugar as well than other consumers. Brown Sugar, the streaming video service that bills itself as being "like Netflix, only blacker, " officially launched a channel on Roku streaming devices Friday. Katz Broadcasting VP of digital content Calandria Meadows told Variety that the service is looking to target African-American Roku users with "entertainment that looks like them. " Katz, which also operates African-American TV network Bounce TV, launched Brown Sugar as a standalone streaming service for Blaxploitation movies and similar fare last November. "We really felt like there was a gap in the marketplace, " said Meadows, as other streaming services were ignoring 70s classics like "Shaft" and "Foxy Brown. " Brown Sugar, which charges consumers $3. 99 per month, initially launched on iOS, Android and Chromecast, and has since expanded to Kindle Fire tablets as well. Jonathan Katz, CEO of Katz Networks declined to talk about the service's subscriber numbers, but said that "growth has been steady and solid. " Katz also said that Brown Sugar has steadily expanding its content offering, from around 100 movies at launch to close to 300 titles to date.

Brown Sugar Streaming Service Launches on Roku (EXCLUSIVE)
Brown Sugar, the Netflix-style subscription VOD service claiming to offer the "biggest collection of the baddest movies" in the Blaxploitation genre on the internet, is now available on Amazon Channels. Amazon Prime members can now watch Brown Sugar's library of films — uncensored and commercial-free — as they were originally seen in theaters. The service is $3. 99 per month and is available to Prime customers with a seven-day free trial. The lineup of nearly 300 movies on Brown Sugar includes classics of the genre including "Shaft, " "Dolemite, " "Cotton Comes to Harlem, " "Foxy Brown, " "The Original Gangstas, " "In the Heat of the Night, " "Blacula, " "Cleopatra Jones, " "Crash, " "Cooley High, " "Which Way Is Up? ", "Hammer, " and "Black Caesar, " as well as "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" and "Car Wash. " Brown Sugar also offers complete seasons of Bounce network series "Saints & Sinners, " "Mann & Wife, " "Family Time, " "In The Cut" and "Ed Gordon, " as well as Premier Boxing Champions events.
This was a problem in the early days. " This new service, Williamson said, "gives them an opportunity to sit at home and see films they have heard about. They have heard about Black Caesar. They've heard about Foxy Brown. They've heard about Shaft, but they never had the opportunity to go see it. " Doing so is like a virtual trip into the Wayback Machine. The clothing, hairdos and music transport you to the '70s. Some of the movies are in slightly grainy standard definition. Others, such as Foxy Brown, Shaft and Super Fly, look spiffier but you are reminded of the days before pristine HD and 4K Ultra HD video. The service says it has the best prints available of the movies it offers. Since most watching for now will be on computers and mobile devices, image quality won't be much of an issue. Brown Sugar aims to expand to other devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku Net TV boxes. If you have time to check out Brown Sugar, forget about the resolution of the image. Just focus on the characters.
